Getting started with LaTeX

Before you get started be sure that you have LaTeX installed on your computer. For Windows users we recommend to install proTeXt or MikTeX and for Linux users we recommend TeX-Live-LaTeX for new systems (>2008) and teTeX for older systems. LaTeX documents are pure ASCII text files and can be edited by any text editing program. For a specialized LaTeX editor we recommend TeXworks for Windows. We recommend that you produce pdf-documents using the command pdflatex that is provided by the LaTeX installations.

The LaTeX template folder contains an example file “author.tex”. The file contains useful comments to get you started on your LaTeX document. We ask that you rename the “author.tex” file with your own name and use this as the starting point for your paper. The first thing you should do is to compile your file (using e.g. pdflatex) to check that your installation of LaTeX works properly. The resulting pdf should be identical to the file “authsamp.pdf”.

For further instructions see “authinst.pdf” and “refguide.pdf”.
